Don't think of yourself as just 'one of the good ones', think 'how could *I* be better?'.

I study the black holes in our galaxy that are slowly consuming their companion stars, and shooting out vast, violent jets.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

I love standing at the forefront of humanity's understanding, looking out into the unknown and discovering. I like to strive for the betterment of humanity through an increased understanding of the world around us, and hope to make the world a better place.

HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE WOMEN IN STEM?

I am fortunate to be surrounded by many fantastic women scientists, enthusiastic to promote their fields and their love of science to everyone around them. Their work is valuable and unparalleled, I support them, cite them, and promote their work at the conventions I go at.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHOULD BE DONE TO ENCOURAGE MORE GENDER DIVERSITY WITHIN STEM?

More, longer-term engagement with the youth to help instil in them an idea of a diverse STEM community, and actively tackling the instances of gender discrimination in the workplace.

BEST ADVICE FOR OTHER ADVOCATES?

Be active, not only to others, but yourself. Don't think of yourself as just 'one of the good ones', think 'how could *I* be better?'.
