WHAT DO YOU DO?

As the CEO of a digital health company, Aparito in London, I drive the strategy of the company in terms of the clinical context and tech offering, along with additional services to ensure adoption, external profile and investor relations.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

I had previously spent over 20 years as a children’s nurse, academic studying for my PhD, and a regulator at the European Medicine Agency. But I felt that there was a real gap in the way that we monitored children, and eventually I decided that doing it myself via a company was the best way to achieve that.

Ability is important but attitude is even more important. The rest will work itself out.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

,,

Rowing across the Atlantic gave me the confidence to believe that anything is possible if you work hard enough at it. Create your own career pathway, don’t feel obliged to fight up the traditional route and don’t be afraid to try and experience new roles. Ability is important, but attitude is even more important. The rest will work itself out.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

When you find a passion that’s driven by something greater than you then it makes it easy to love the work you do. To always learn, to always be curious to understand that little bit more. That’s what keeps me excited.

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

STEM is hugely exciting to be in. Always keep an inquisitive mind, a thirst for new knowledge. Surround yourself by people that know more than you and absorb it like a sponge, there’s never a chance that you’ll get bored that way.

INSPO / FUN FACT

I’d love to be WonderWoman - both the real woman that inspired her creation and the super hero herself. If I could carve my own persona I would like to be considered a mix of Marilyn Monroe and Mother Theresa.
