WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am a software engineer who owns, designs, and builds software systems to solve engineering problems which help my team to function efficiently. I build tools that help prioritize future software development projects in the pipeline.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I have a family of engineers, my father is an electrical engineer, my sister is a computer science engineer, my brother is an electronics engineer. I was given multiple options. During my school days, I was given an option between commerce and science. I attended commerce for few days and decided to go for science. After school, I applied for physics, statistics, and some engineering schools. Believe me, engineering schools were my last option. I chose to get a major in physics from Delhi University and went to school for a month. In that 1 month of studying physics, I somehow realised this is not the field for me and I want to be a CS engineer. So I would say my decisions were self-made, I tried a field and moved to another. I didn’t just take a path but I also took a sneak peek into the other. And that’s how my journey started with computer science and I am loving every bit of it.
HOW DO/DID YOU TACKLE OBSTACLES?
Staying positive and surrounding myself with people who have the knowledge goes a long way. I try to break down the problems into achievable goals and tackle them one at a time.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
It's the journey that matters, it's the fun you have in the process to achieve the goal which matters and once you achieve the goal you will definitely have another milestone to achieve. Love what you do and you'll never feel like it's work.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
I wake up to solve software problems, to learn new languages, to learn about new software systems. Every day there is a new problem and a better solution to explore. Who thought you could have cloud storage or have remote systems to work on. Innovation is what makes me fall in love with software systems. Engineering is a magical world that could just change your thoughts into things.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
Science gives you wings to fly, to make things that will change the world. Focus on learning new things and you will know your interests which will pave your path to innovation and success.
