Data Analyst - APAC
Keep going and sooner or later the door will open to take you to right path.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am an experienced professional in BI Analytics and Data Strategy. I am handling all major clients in APAC region and helping to build the core product across Data Analytics/BI.
My job role is to drive analytics activities for multiple clients at all stages of the analytics lifecycle– understanding business needs, defining business questions to be answered, sourcing, cleansing and transforming data, conducting exploratory data analysis, developing and validating models and explaining analytics results, implications and proposals in business terms. I am collaborating with APAC Internal/External stakeholders to understand business challenges and recommend solutions across the complex range of products and processes.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I did my Diploma and Engineering in Computer Science (IT) and had a clear path to be part of the Software/IT industry. In the decade long career I had the chance to work in several organisations in different business domains using different sets of tools & technology.
Being in this field I always believed in the power of data and I saw it as an asset for any organisation. So I chose data/business analytics. All the data around us (in any form) has a meaningful story - a story which can be very helpful for business strategy, making big decisions, improve marketing strategy, improve operations and improvingcustomer service.
HOW DO/DID YOU TACKLE OBSTACLES?
Be it on a professional or personal front there are always some obstacles in your path.
What I learnt with my experience is your attitude matters the most to handle any obstacle. I believe in being positive, being strong (mentally/physically) and being brave to face them in life.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
If I look back now I can say I was not aware of how to handle problems/difficult situations. Being naive I was taking impulsive decisions without thinking about consequences.
Secondly I would ask for others help if stuck in a problem, mostly people will help you when you reach out to them for help.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
STEM is set as a base foundation for me. It is ever evolving and it is everywhere in all domains/industries. You learn transferable skills and the focus is on solving problems and creating new knowledge, and in that, there is something for everyone.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
Sometimes you may be stuck in a situation where you will feel everything is finished but instead of loosing spirit you should keep going and sooner or later the door will open to take you to right path.
My inspiration is my Father, who gave us freedom and supported me in all the stages to achieve what I want. He always encourages us to think for ourselves rather than forcing a decision on us. He never differentiated between me and my brother. I always try to create the same culture/environment in my team/work where each individual is free to find the solution/make a decision. I inspire to be a leader instead of being a boss.
