Staff Data Scientist
Take all those risks, try different things, figure out what works for you and follow on what strikes your interest.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I work as a Staff Data Scientist with Blue Yonder. I design AI/ML solutions that help organizations make efficient and smarter business decisions.
I frequently blog about Data Science topics with an intent to make the AI/ML concepts easy for everyone.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
Coming from a business family, I always had quick stints with numbers. Besides, I was always interested in automatizing the day-to-day tasks, generating insights from patterns (like which months are low on sales, do we see fewer customers on weekdays), and converting them to build a successful business. This combination led me to understand that a lot of tasks can be delegated by giving the data to machines for learning the associations. This also allows us to pick up matters of prime significance and attention as experts.
HOW DO/DID YOU TACKLE OBSTACLES?
Consistency, discipline, and the determination to learn is my answer to all the obstacles.
I follow “Going in one more round when you don't think you can, that's what makes all the difference in your life.”
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
I wish I knew before that boundaries are just something that exists in our minds. Once I was past these self-imposed boundaries, the world of opportunities opened up for me. The fearless attitude of being a ‘Yes woman’ did wonders to my personality on both fronts, personally and professionally. I became more confident of doing the best to whatever came my way.
I truly agree with Henry Ford when he says, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right”.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
I am a strong believer in the fact that if you like what you do, you look forward to waking up every single morning and jump-start your day.
The sheer ability to utilize the AI ecosystem to build something innovative is a big motivation in my profession.
We all work at the core of experiences and are exploiting patterns in the hindsight. AI helps them take shape and form and has been responsible for a gamut of applications, user profiling, recommendation engines.
The work I do in my day-to-day life helps individuals, organizations, and eventually this world a better-organized place to live in and be a part of more such scientific advancements.
I am thrilled to be a part of this AI transformation.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
It’s perfectly okay to travel the path less traversed. Take all those risks, try different things, figure out what works for you and follow on what strikes your interest. If you work in the field that interests you, you will never have to force yourself to work, it will come naturally to you.
The biggest risk is to not take any risk at all.
