What do you do?
I am environmental building consultant, working with technology and sustainability to enhance quality of life for all
Why did you choose this field?
I studied architecture and was passionated about sustainabiliy and the way buildings affect people dwelling them, Sustainability had always been in the core of my believes, and then I realized Engineering was part of this so I dived in. I have always been and entrepreneur, it gave me a chance not to choose between family and career so I created a company that gave women that same chance. I have had the opportunity to raise my 2 sons around my work with out having to compromise my parenting because of my work. I support a lot of women in engineering by hiring, training them, and encouraging to take leadership, so they can have a voice and experience in iconic building projects. I have had the opportunity to work in so many kinds of complex buildings from Airports, to hospitals and data centers. We supervise the design and MEP through our commissioning services. I love to bring professional women to the table to these projects. We all are setting a statement for women in STEM. I now participate in different organization such as ASHRAE and Smart Building association in Mexico. It is important to be present and be part of the narrative participating. I have so many mentors helping me navigate the industry, mostly men supporting women, I am grateful we can open the doors for more women in the field
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
I have worked in international projects, for huge companies, I have grow with my company to 35 people and I have been recognized internationally for my contributions to transform the market in sustainability and construction. I am now recognized as a voice for women in STEM in my country. My company has gotten big contracts and performed really good at them. I would have never thought of myself as getting those projects and getting such good results.
Why do you love working in STEM?
I love to work in STEM because it is very straight forward, it is either right or wrong and a simple calculation will give you the answer, also there are so many ways of fixing problems and creativity is always part of the challenge
Best advice for next generation?
It is very satisfying to fix something and solve problems so we can all live better, the more we are the more we can support each other. We are still so few, we need more women to have a bigger tribe.
