What do you do?
I work as a Software Engineer who is more into the Identity and Access Management(IAM) domain. I engage in the research and development tasks of an IAM solution.
Why did you choose this field?
Back in the school days mathematics was the most interesting subject for me compared to all other subjects I learnt. Thus, it was not a hard choice when selecting a subject stream for my Advanced Level. However, after I got selected to the Engineering faculty, I stuck in the middle of many specializations when I had to choose one to go forward at the completion of first semester by learning the basics of various Engineering fields. I was not aware of any programming language until I start learning them in the first semester of the University, but I enjoyed and loved to learn them because programming is based on logical thinking. Finally, I followed my heart, I believed that I have the strength to learn the stuff because I'm curious to learn. So I chose Computer Science and Engineering as my field of study. As I wished I could able to graduate with flying colors.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
I can't highlight just one or two here. Instead, I would say each and every task, exam, competition, project, or whatever the thing I was able to complete successfully exceeding my expectation is the biggest achievement.
Why do you love working in STEM?
I love working in STEM because I am curious to learn. Every day is updating and I have my unknowns to learn. It's not about doing regular tasks every day.
Best advice for next generation?
Each one of you is a unique character in the world. So, you are gifted with a unique set of capacities and strengths to achieve your targets. What you have to do is polishing your strengths and extending the capacity. For that, be curious always to learn, believe yourselves, grab every opportunity that you have, and complete what you do as the best way possible.
