Anything is possible if you want to achieve it badly enough (truly anything).

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am a professor, research scientist and mentor of undergraduate students.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

I am a first generation student and did not have an easy time getting to where I am. I pride myself on having a growth mindset and showing others, particularly minorities and women in STEM, that it is possible despite the challenges.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

I never thought my career was a possibility for me. I thought I was bad at math and science. I believed I wasn't smart enough or ambitious enough to do anything like this. I wish I had strong role models and mentors to show me the possibilities of what I could've achieved.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

Every day I get to inspire and mentor bright young minds. I am only one person and cannot make much of an impact myself. However, I believe my approach to teaching and mentorship has helped so many others achieve great things. Their success is my success as well.

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

Anything is possible if you want to achieve it badly enough (truly anything).

INSPO / FUN FACT

If you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.
