What do you do?
I lead the effort in bringing innovative solutions to market which provide insights into complex communications data (instant message, email, calls, audio etc.) for information governance, productivity measurements or for improving operational efficiency.
Why did you choose this field?
My mom has been the biggest and most significant influence on my life. Being a math major herself, she initiated my interest in math and it became my favorite subject in school. I started to love analyzing various formulae and equations in math and solving complex problems.
My dad is an economics/law major. He is the most generous and kind-hearted person I know. He taught me the value of education. My love for math steered me towards engineering. During my undergraduate (civil engineering) years I happened to enroll in a computer science program and it opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities that STEM offers.
When I got accepted into Temple University for a master's program in computer science, I decided to take up the opportunity. It surprised me that I was the only female or one of the few in my graduate degree classes compared to the CS classes in India. Although the gender gap has improved since then, we certainly need more women to enroll. It has been 20+ years since I've been working in this field and the journey so far has been fun and challenging with constant learning and growing.
