What do you do?
I am an independent Business Consultant who works with a range of clients in sectors such as Financial Services, Government and Utilities to help them achieve their business objectives through delivery of business requirements, process improvement and technology. I also coach fellow Business Analysts and help clients adopt Agile best practice.
Why did you choose this field?
From a young age, when I used to play computer games or use Paint on my parents computer; I used to question how the programmes were built, and trying to understand how humans had sat down together to agree the make-up of a product.
As I grew up, I knew that I wanted to influence change on the delivery of technology products and processes, without being the ‘Coder’ and I was pointed out by my IT teacher in sixth form on the path of Business Analysis.
My interest grew further, and it lead me into studying Computer Science with Business at university so that I would become successful in my career, even though there were not many females on my course.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
Mentoring and sharing nuggets with the younger generation without waiting for the “perfect” time.
Why do you love working in STEM?
There is no typical day in IT, as technology and ways of working are constantly evolving which allows me to continue learning and, finding creative ways to engage with stakeholders.
Best advice for next generation?
So long as you have passion and determination, success will follow.
Never judge your success based on others, do what makes you happy!
And, there’s nothing wrong with being the ‘only’ girl in the room, so long as you enjoy what you do!
