Beverley Drake

Program Manager, National Transportation Safety Board

Pursue your dreams.

What do you do?

I am currently the Forum Manager for the NTSB

Why did you choose this field?

I am one of the first two female pilots for my native country Guyana, and I am the only black female aviation accident investigator with the NTSB. I lived my dream and my dad's dream to be a pilot.

What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?

My achievement as a role model pilot/aviation investigator is my dream job and I never knew a girl from a third world country could have achieved this. I even have my own postage stamp. I was honored by my country for my achievement.

Why do you love working in STEM?

I love encouraging the young folks to pursue aviation as a career choice and I look forward to sharing my story with the kids from elementary school all the way to college.

Best advice for next generation?

I would tell them to pursue their dreams like I did when I became the first female pilot to fly for the airline of my country, Guyana Airways Corporation.

Inspo quote / fun fact / role model

“Follow your dreams and your passion, you will not regret your career choice.”
