What do you do?
As a professional in the cyber security domain, I work with clients on a daily basis to help them with their identity and access management (IAM). IAM is a framework of policies and technologies for ensuring that the proper people in an enterprise have the appropriate access to technology resources.
Why did you choose this field?
I was always a curious child, the mechanism behind a toy fascinated me more than the toy itself. My curiosity led me to pursue education about technology. During my undergrad, I learnt about computers and programming and exposure to different internships and projects were the reason behind my proclivity towards a career in tech.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
I had the opportunity to intern at Microsoft, while pursuing my undergrad. It was a summer internship which exposed me to the tech world and the infinite possibilities and opportunities. I had the opportunity to grow as a person and network with amazing and passionate individuals. It was definitely a dream come true.
Why do you love working in STEM?
I love working in STEM because it makes me feel on the edge all the times. The new inventions and technologies that come up everyday and the huge impact they make in everyone's lives - this makes me feel included and excited. I wake up looking forward to being a part of the larger good, to be able to make difference some day. To be of help to someone, somewhere.
Best advice for next generation?
Being a part of STEM is an exciting affair. It makes you feel empowered. I would say that give your early years to STEM, train yourself and drown in the unexplored universe this field has to offer. I promise it only gets better with the years. It is a never ending adventure!!
