What do you do?
I am studying migratory birds; their incredible journey, how they select their habitat, how human activities impact their survival, reproduction and behaviour. I try to understand wildlife to better protect it !
Why did you choose this field?
I grew up in the mountains, always close to nature and my willingness to protect it grew a bit more at each new candle on my cake !
Migration stories are my fairy tales.
I was lucky enough to meet inspiring scientists during my studies that encouraged me to pursue my studies with a PhD and a STEM career
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
Simply having a PhD and become Dr. Francesiaz !
Why do you love working in STEM?
Because science is all around us ! Questions are everywhere and maybe I can help answering one or two of them ?
Best advice for next generation?
Go for it ! Science is waiting for your ideas. Be aware of gender bias, talk about it, raise awareness but stay confident: You are good enough !
