WHAT DO YOU DO?
In simple terms, helping to build wind farms and power stations. our company moto is #KeepingYouPowered. We work on a range of High Voltage Electrical Installation Projects. As an SME company I am involved in all areas from tendering for work, project planning, engineering & execution. In addition I am responsible for the financial control. It is a diverse and varied role, I get the opportunity to go out on site, even climbing wind turbines, but also have to work hard on documentation, paperwork, reports and spreadsheets.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
My Father and Grandfather were both engineers, I have grown up with Engineering all around me. At school my Design Technology gave me the confidence to realise my abilities as an Engineer and apply to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Surrey.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
When my Company signed the contract for services for the London Array wind farm. At the time, the Worlds largest wind farm. A small company in Kent, with me on the leadership team really was making a difference in the UKs journey towards producing greener energy! This was an exciting time, an event I am proud to have played a key role in.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
I have always had a passion for maths and for understanding how things work. I love my job because of the variety it brings, every day there are new challenges to overcome and problems to solve. This is engineering at its greatest!
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
Have the confidence in your own abilities, speak up and be heard in class at school, or Uni, on project teams or in the work place. Most of all make sure everything you do is the highest possible quality as this will speak for you.
