What do you do?
I teach Microbiology, and conduct research in Environmental Microbiology with focus on Bioremediation and Microbial Ecology. I also engage in counselling students of Life Sciences.
Why did you choose this field?
The world of microbes has always fascinated me, they are so tiny yet so powerful in the impact they have in the world. I chose this field because I wanted to study how we could harness microorganisms to the benefit of mankind, other creatures and our environment.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
Successfully completing a Ph.D. while having a demanding job, being a wife, and a mother of three young kids.
Why do you love working in STEM?
I love working in STEM because I get to understand how living systems work down to the molecular level. I wake up looking forward to researching the "intelligent tricks" adopted by microbes. They are constantly evolving!
