Scrum Master with BT

Think outside the box.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

As a scrum master my role is to coach and support the team along with facilitating the scrum ceremonies. I help to resolve any blockers for the team and ensure that there is proper understanding and use of scrum.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

I always loved problem solving from a very young age. However, I didn’t realise I had an interest in technology until I went into secondary school and my teacher encouraged me to consider it as a career path. I then joined BT as an apprentice which gave me the opportunity to work on Linux systems in a support role which then led me to applying for a front end developer role once I finished the scheme which then led to me becoming a scrum master.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

Finishing my degree was a big achievement. None of my family had went to university and was something that was always a personal goal for me but was something I never thought I would achieve. At school I was never a straight ‘A’ student and I had to work that bit harder to get the grades I needed.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

Everyday is different. There is so many opportunities and you can find yourself on a path that you never planned. You can work in so many different roles which gives you opportunity to step outside your comfort zone and try something new.

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

Think outside the box. There is so many opportunities and so many ways to get involved in technology. There are so many different roles which means that you can find something that is the perfect fit for you.
