Jackie Carpenter

Managing Director, One Giant Leap Australia Foundation

You can make the impossible possible.

What do you do?

I create life changing immersive opportunities in aerospace STEM education for all Australians of all ages. I inspire people to be the best they can be!

Why did you choose this field?

In 2007, I was fortunate to receive a fully funded scholarship from Honeywell to attend Space camp USA. That program changed my life. With more than 20 years experience in education, I knew that I wanted to make a difference. So, here the team at One Giant Leap Australia make the 'impossible possible'.

What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?

It is not so much of an achievement but confidence. Be confident. Be brave. Be you. Believe in you.

Why do you love working in STEM?

STEM is problem solving, thinking outside the box, critical thinking. Teamwork. How exciting! I wake up every day looking forward to the next challenge, the smile and tears as we make a difference to just ONE person. Knowing that what we are doing is unique and life changing. One person at a time. We can do it!

Best advice for next generation?

My advice - you can make the impossible possible. Believe in yourself. A rising tide lifts all boats. Lift up all around you and the world will be at your feet!
