Vocational preparatory student
And - Aspiring astrophysicist on Mars
I just love the idea of driving mankind forward and having an influence on it.
What do you do?
Currently, I am working towards my goal of being an astrophysicist on the first mission to Mars. That's why I'm doing my high school diploma with a focus on physics. Meanwhile, I am looking for opportunities to pursue my passion, such as various students universities, camps and a career exploration in the research center in Jülich. A student university is a one-week event for students who have the opportunity to spend time at a university in a STEM area. All these events will also help my future application for the astronaut program.
Why did you choose this field?
At night my dad and I have always watched the night sky, we even had an old telescope set up. My dad told me about the objects that are in space and out of curiosity, I asked him questions that I found even he could not answer at some points. But I did not settle for that because I wanted answers to my questions. So my family bought me books about space, which I read with enthusiasm, but the more I read the more questions came up.
One night my dad wanted me to watch a documentary on TV on Mars. The longer I watched, the more sure I became about what I wanted to become. I want to become one of the first people on Mars. This dream runs like a thread through my life.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
I wish I had known that I was good enough and that I had the potential to make my dream come true. I wish I had known that I can not let others take my dream away. That is very important to me.
Why do you love working in STEM?
I am curious, I like knowledge. My father always says knowledge means power, he is right. I just love the idea of
Best advice for next generation?
Do not be fooled into thinking that you are not good enough or that you can not do it. Everyone has the potential to realize their dream. It is only up to you whether you use this potential or not.
