Girls are a limited resource in STEM which makes them even more valuable.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am a Mechanical Engineering Student about to embark on a Industrial Placement as a Race Engineer for Williams F1
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I grew up watching F1 with my parents and was fascinated by the engineering behind the cars. I wanted to be part of the action so I applied for a Mechanical Engineering degree to become a Race Engineer.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
I used to not tell people what my dream job was because I was embarrassed as I thought it would be impossible. Now, I'm not even 20 years old and I am going into my dream job.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
I think the variation day today is a massive appeal to careers in STEM. Challenging yourself mentally and solving difficult problems is also hugely rewarding.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
Girls are a limited resource in STEM which makes them even more valuable. It is so important that a company has a range of perspectives so do not be put off by a lack of women!
