There is no substitute of hard work. Be kind but brave in whatever you do.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am a Ph.D. candidate at CEMEF, Mines ParisTech (France). My thesis is based on the study of a new nickel-based superalloy for aircraft engines. I evaluate the alloy behavior through a series of thermo-mechanical tests and microstructure characterization techniques. Our study will ultimately help to better understand this new alloy and tailor its processing route to obtain optimum properties.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I chose research in metallurgy as it is a field which has been consistently evolving for at least past 3000 years. A lot has been studied yet a lot remains to be learnt and this motivates me in my research.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
Both challenges and goals evolve over time and that you can never truly master a field. Easy or difficult, you would get to decide your own path.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
It is never monotonous. There is so much scope for improvement. The humble feeling that you have learnt a lot still so much remains to be understood is a great motivation.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
There is no substitute of hard work. Be kind but brave in whatever you do.
