You deserve to follow and achieve your dreams and goals just as much as anyone.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I teach undergraduate chemistry, learn about how students learn and develop new inclusive teaching practices, working to improve equity within STEM.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

I have always loved to teach and learn. Teaching in High education allows me to both while also getting to carry out research and work with awesome colleagues.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

Almost everyone. I have often started with the mindset of "I couldn't do that", "I'm not smart/creative/outgoing/confident/[insert trait here] enough". Fighting against feelings of self-doubt has taken up a lot of time and emotional energy that I would have prefered to put towards achieving the particular goal.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

Learning about the world we live in fascinates me but most the most motivating part of my job is the students. Getting to know our undergraduate students, watching them learn and develop, and being a part of that journey is... words fail me but I feel incredibly privileged.

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

You deserve to follow and achieve your dreams and goals just as much as anyone. It can be difficult to battle with feelings of being an imposter but being part of a supportive community really helps - reach out to others.
