STEM will give you wings to fly and see your dreams turning into reality.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am a Cancer Biologist. Besides doing research in a laboratory, I also make sure to create awareness in society. I conduct Cancer awareness and Health & Hygiene workshops and camps in rural areas around Lucknow in association with NGOs. I also distribute educational material to students from financially weak backgrounds.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I studied in a convent school where I was taught to use the knowledge gained for the benefit of the society. I wanted to serve the society as doctor in medicine. Destiny has different type of doctor degree for me and I got inspired by my professor to take up research as a career. She has been a role model for me since then. Also I was inspired by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam an eminent Indian scientist who was so humble and served the nation throughout his life.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
I could have started scientific communication programs earlier to create more awareness among girls to take up science and research.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
STEM provides me an opportunity to work on my thoughts, there is a freedom to work on my own ideas and find out something interesting unknown till now. I always look forward to being a better scientist and want to make a bigger stage to help students who do not have resources.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
STEM will give you wings to fly and see your dreams turning into reality.
