WHAT DO YOU DO?
I work on the Dropbox Sharing team, building features that millions of individuals and teams use to collaborate with one another every day.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I was originally a biology major and my parents encouraged me to take the introductory CS course in undergrad. I loved how I wasn't memorizing random formulas and facts to spit out on an exam, but was developing a skillset for real problem solving. I switched my major to CS and math and never looked back!
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
Within a few months of starting my first full time job with my previous company, I had the opportunity to volunteer at our annual customer conference. I got to demo our product and talk with real customers about their use cases. It was exciting and exhilarating to show off our hard work to real users and see how much our product helped them.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
I love being constantly challenged by my job and learning new things! There's always a new area or technology to explore or develop, and I love feeling empowered to improve my own skillset.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
Connect with other women in your field, help, challenge, and support one another. Also, trust yourself and your opinions - the loudest people in the room aren't always the smartest.
INSPO / FUN FACT
“We should always have three friends in our lives-one who walks ahead who we look up to and follow; one who walks beside us, who is with us every step of our journey; and then, one who we reach back for and bring along after we’ve cleared the way.”
― Michelle Obama.
