Don’t be afraid to talk to someone.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
Research and provide diagnostic support in the parasitology department
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I took microbiology in high school and loved it, but I also loved wildlife. In college my freshman year I took a course called wildlife parasites and was sold on the study
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
Publishing manuscripts has been a wild experience. I have never been confident in my writing skills, and to see papers that I have written with me a first author has been a great experience
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
I like the discovery of STEM. There is something so satisfying in finding the first discovery of a parasite or the first to discover minute differences in parasites
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
Don’t be afraid to talk to someone. I think women often worry about being a nuisance, but don’t let that hold you back. Be persistent if it is something you want to do
