President and Founder - Dare to Dream

,,

Be fearless in the pursuit of what set your soul on fire.

What do you do?

Dare to Dream is a social enterprise based at Botswana Innovation Hub Science and Technology park dedicated to the advancement of youth women and girls in STEAME as well as Aviation and Aerospace, STEAME stands for Science, Technology,Engineering, Arts, Mathematics and Entrepreneurship

Why did you choose this field?

I grew up in a small village from very humble beginnings just a stone throw from Sir Seretse Khama International Airport called Ledumadumane, when I was growing up I used to see flying machines passing over my mothers house, from an early young age I knew that I was born to FLY. I finished by high schools with flying colours, because I knew when I wanted to go, knowing where you are going is the first step of getting there, I applied at 43 Air school in South Africa to study piloting, my family did not support my dream, my mother said it was too out of the norm, for a girl child from very humble beginnings to fly planes, instead i should go to the University and study to become a teacher. I went to University of Botswana and studied Bachelor of Science(Mathematics) and graduated and indeed became a teacher at Goodhope Senior Secondary School, In April 2009 the Botswana Defence Force decided to enlist its first female military pilots, this time around i knew nobody was going to stand on my way to achieve what I always wanted, I left home to the disgruntlement of my mother and joined the military to become a pilot. After graduating as one of the first female military pilots in my country I started Dare to Dream to inspire the next generation more especially the girl child and give them a chance I never had

What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?

I always knew that I was born to fly no matter how dark and impossible my upbringing was, even when i walked barefoot to school in winter deep inside me i knew i was born to prosper. Last year after 10 years of serving in the military I left because I have a burning desire to start my own airline charter business, I know its a big dream but i know and believe its possible after coming this far from very humble beginnings

Why do you love working in STEM?

My greatest dream and biggest aspiration is to build African Global excellence in STEAME as well as Aviation and Aerospace, to use my energy, networks and contacts to give the upcoming generation a chance I never had more especially the girl child growing up in rural underprivileged communities like me

Best advice for next generation?

Be fearless in the pursuit of what set your soul on fire, its not going to be easy, go out there and start your STEM career
