My younger self would be amazed today to know how normal scientists are, and how science is not boring!

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am a science communicator who guides/informs the audience about various aspects of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), science, academia, and nutrition. Instagram is my main platform of instruction.

In my formal education, I study nutrition and the effect it has on people. I aim towards an all-round development of the underprivileged children by improving their nutritional status (SDG 2 & 3).

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

I did not choose nutrition as my field. It was, in fact, the other way round. Nutrition sciences was a rather new degree in my state (Punjab, India) and for no particular reason I joined the course. It was the second year of my undergrad when I represented my university at the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit 2015. There, I discovered my hidden passion for science and the sustainable development goals. Something in the summit triggered me to work on the connecting pathway between the SDGs and the basic human nutrition.

I haven’t looked back. My talks were aired on All India Radio three times, which served as a fuel to that fire. I gained further confidence when I grabbed a couple of fellowships for my research. I recently started communicating science and I am loving it!

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

My younger self always thought of scientists as people with white hair whose world is confined to the labs, the glassware, and the exploding chemicals! My younger self would be amazed today to know how normal scientists are, and how science is not boring!

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

I love communicating and advocating STEM. The more I do this, the more I connect to the people! Every morning I wake up with a motive to inspire at least one person. My best days are the ones when I receive a gratitude message from someone, and when they say I am their inspiration!

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

Face your deepest fears! Once you do that, they become your biggest strength! The more you unfold science, the more curious you become to unfold it further. It never ceases to amaze us!

INSPO / FUN FACT

I was that student who was more interested in history and literature. Science was never my cup of tea. But I love it now!
