You need to keep pushing for your dreams and to make change, and use your voice for people not as fortunate as you.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I'm a laboratory technician, I look after numerous university practicals, prepare reagents, train demonstrators and other staff on machinery and equipment, support academics and ensure that everything runs smoothly
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I always knew I wanted a career in science throughout school. During my degree in Biomedical Sciences I fell in love with being in the lab. Being a technician has reinforced this, as well as giving me the passion for supporting students. I especially love this as I can support students in practicals that I struggled with, and can give them advice that I could have used.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
Getting through my degree was a struggle. Seeing students do the same degree as me now I'm a technician I feel honoured to give them the advice that I wish I'd taken, and reassure them that everything will be ok
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
I love working in STEM due to the variety, there is always something to learn and to discover, and you meet so many different interesting people
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
Things are changing, it might not be as quick as we want but it is. You need to keep pushing for your dreams and to make change, and use your voice for people not as fortunate as you
