Maheepala Mudalige Nipuni Bhagya Paaris

Software Engineer at WSO2 Inc.

Know yourself and always have the courage to be yourself.

What do you do?

I work as a software engineer for an open-source technology provider that designs and develops middleware. More specifically I'm a part of a team developing and maintaining a cloud-based customer identity and access management solution.

Why did you choose this field?

I was very curious about computers from a very young age. My father was an engineer too and he used to tell me stories about all the cool stuff programmers get to do. So I think in the back of my head I always wanted to get into a career related to computers.

What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?

Wining the 22nd International ICT Innovative Services Awards held in Taipei, Taiwan was one of the most prominent achievements of my life.

Why do you love working in STEM?

I think working in STEM has made me an independent woman and for me, that is the greatest thing of them all. Also getting the opportunity to explore new technologies and gaining recognition for my work always feels amazing.

Best advice for next generation?

Anything is possible if you work hard enough. Also, know yourself and always have the courage to be yourself.
