Study and do what interests you & enjoy the learning process.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I guide the strategic delivery of engineering projects and engineering services through teams across Australia. They might be creating or maintaining digital control systems, simulators, collecting analytical information about chemical processes, equipment or helping maintain critical infrastructure.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

I always loved science, the environment and then representing different science in maps and analyses. While I did a lot of field work at university I ended up being very good at telling stories with data and improving processes. I now help lots of technical professionals improve processes and solve industry problems with technical solutions like automation.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

Part of a leadership and network program I participated in two years ago (Homeward Bound) resulted in me travelling to Antarctica with some of the most inspirational STEMM professionals (all women) I have ever met. To be in such an inspirational place with so many inspirational women ... it was beyond anything I could have ever imagined I would get to experience in my career.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

No day is ever the same. The technologies evolve, so do our industries, our businesses and our urban and natural environments. This provides a very stimulating environment for tracking new ideas, new ways of improving things, challenges like doing things faster, with less waste, reducing carbon emissions. This makes for continuous learning and growth as professionals and enriches you as you collaborate with others.

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

Study and do what interests you, enjoy the learning process, reach out to others to share your learning and development and you are sure to be guided in directions that will provide a fulfilling career. Do not ever be worried about the end point - chances are it is way beyond anything you could imagine for yourself.

INSPO / FUN FACT

“I believe in human ingenuity – that when we decide on a task to be done, no matter how daunting it may seem at the beginning, we are able to unleash human ingenuity and human innovative capacity that was unknown, and takes us to a solution.” - Christiana Figueres
