What do you do?
I am a student who is a strong advocate for women in STEM and is passionate about exploring computer science and technology. I lead my own organization, Tech Girls United, as I strive to provide more opportunities and outreach for girls interested in tech topics. I am also a Creative Director at Reinvented Magazine, where we strive to reinvent the perception of women in STEM. I also co-founded a robotics organization, Think Fast Robotics, we teach girls about robotics and also create a robot for the VEX competition season. Throughout my various experiences I have been able to explore computer science and STEM further, constantly learning more, as I seek to bring opportunities to others.
Why did you choose this field?
I chose to pursue my interests in Computer Science at a hackathon I attended. After experiencing the hackathon environment and technical wonders that CS brings, I was able to find my passion for the subject. From there I have been constantly exploring different aspects of Computer Science as I have worked with web development and am currently exploring the depths of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. I have been taking open courseware and gaining intern experience that has guided me in my learning. I have also been able to get constant support from my family and other role models who have helped pave a way in STEM for me.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
One achievement I wish younger me would have known was possible, was being interviewed for my work in the industry. It was an accomplishment that allowed me to realise that I was able to make an impact on my community and it was being recognised by others around me.
Why do you love working in STEM?
I love working in STEM because of the constantly advancing industry that challenges people to think and work harder. The industry is constantly evolving with new innovations that spark new trends. I enjoying being a part of the technological advancement of today's society. Everyday I look forward to seeing what I can build and the impact I can make with the power of STEM.
