Meryem Tahar

Software/Data Engineer, BAE Systems

Don't compare yourself to others.

What do you do?

I work with various clients to help them find better data and software solutions for their business. This means working with various programming languages and data tools to achieve this.

Why did you choose this field?

I never really intended to get into technology growing up but after studying Computing at A-levels and having a teacher that fully believed that I was capable of achieving well in the subject, I found myself applying to Computing at university.

What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?

Becoming a tech lead in projects and mentoring those junior to me. If I look back at my younger self, I would have never thought I could be at this stage now and that I would know enough about a subject to help others.

Why do you love working in STEM?

I love the community feeling of working in STEM. I feel as though everyone is out to help each other a lot more. I love working with my team and those that sit around me where we discuss everything from projects to life.

Best advice for next generation?

Don't compare yourself to others, the grass always looks greener on the other side and you will get to that side on your own terms through your own hard work one step at a time

Inspo quote / fun fact / role model
