What do you do?
I help people successfully achieve their dream in space by mentally preparing them for anything.
Why did you choose this field?
My dream was to become an astronaut when I was six years old and I have never lost sight of that dream. In fact in three years time, I will be going to space in 2023 as an astronaut trainer and coach for a group going on a commercial space flight! I knew from a very early age that this felt right for me and I never gave up, despite the fact that I have had several disappointments along the way. For example, I applied to NASA to become an astronaut, and I did make it down to the last 200 people which was called the “Highly qualified astronaut candidate” list, but then not lucky enough to be chosen to actually continue and become an astronaut. Even though I was devastated that I did not get selected, I kept applying even still to this day! When you know this is what you want, you just have keep fighting for it, and eventually it will happen – and for me it will finally happen 52 years later. Never give up on your dreams!
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
Becoming a public speaker to inspire other women to get into STEM fields based on becoming an astronaut trainer.
Why do you love working in STEM?
Seeing the excitement from young girls and empowering them that they can achieve anything they put their minds to, even becoming an astronaut!
Best advice for next generation?
It’s cool to be smart and have big dreams of helping society- especially women & girls, advance in life with the technology that you built. You can do anything you want! I believe in you!
