What do you do?
I am a researcher who studies the biodiversity within and ecology of urban agricultural systems.
Why did you choose this field?
Growing up in Southeast Michigan, USA I studied biology at Kalamazoo College where I developed a strong interest in ecology, conservation, agriculture and the environment through research experiences in Michigan's grasslands, and through studying abroad in Thailand.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
Basically and *hopefully* landing a dream job.
Why do you love working in STEM?
I love the new and exciting ideas that come from working in STEM, especially with both new and old collaborations! Working with different scientists across displines and across the world motivates me to wake up everyday, motivated by the hope that our work makes an impact on the health of our environment and health of society.
Best advice for next generation?
Find a (female) role model whose job you want. Reach out to them to learn from and with them; to stay motivated to reach your dreams.
