WHAT DO YOU DO?

As an IT Engineer, I am responsible for implementing and managing a company’s IT systems; this is vital because these systems enable organizations to operate and communicate effectively daily.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

I always say tech found me lol I had a love for fashion and design before pursuing technology. I owe my tech career to a trade school I attended while in high school. I enrolled into a digital design course that opened the door of the many possibilities of technology for me and I didn't turn back since that day. Taking that course led me to wanting to know more about Computer Science and what were the career possibilities. By the time I graduated high school going into college I knew I wanted to major in Computer Science.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

Definitely being a founder of a nonprofit organization that focuses on bringing more African American/ Black girls into technology. I never aspired to be a business owner so early in my career. I saw a need that needed immediate attention and ran with that.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

I love working in STEM because of the representation I am to younger girls who look exactly like me. I didn't know anyone working in STEM careers until I pursued one. I love showing girls that we don't only have to be what society tells us like; models, secretaries, assistants. Everyday I look forward to being challenged, there isn't a day that's the same working in technology. I love that i'm constantly thinking of solutions and collaborating with other like-minded people.

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

Be the change you want to see, don't conform to society norms or settle.
