Don't let anyone tell you you can't do something.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I work with infrastructure and utilities construction projects to ensure that they are legally compliant and financially efficient.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

I originally started my career having gained a Music Degree, and worked in call centres for a number of years. After re-considering my career path in my late 20's, I realised that my love of Construction could actually be attained and identified that I could re-train as a Quantity Surveyor, which I attained a post-graduate diploma.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

When I re-trained after trying to find my way in the working world, I really wish that I would have known that my arts degree was just as valid a first degree as a science degree in order to attain a career in construction and sciences.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

I love working in STEM as I get to use all of my training and knowledge to solve problems, and make projects work for my clients. I love looking back at completed projects, and thinking 'I did that'. Especially showing friends and family too, it's really something to be proud of.

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

Don't let anyone tell you you can't do something. If it interests you, then pursue it. I am a Construction Professional, and a Musician too. There's no reason you can't do anything your heart desires.
