WHAT DO YOU DO?
Recovering tropical ecosystems from degraded conditions
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
Nature is one of the most amazing laboratory. Since kid I appreciated plants and animals, due to the high diversity that we have in this planet. When I decided to study Biology, I was interested for genomics but then I realized that I love work in the field, in close contact with biodiversity. Then I felt that as a scientist I have to do actions to recover and preserve our natural richness, mainly in tropical countries that are very threatened by human activities. This is why I chose ecological restoration as my field of research, 15 years ago. During these years, the example of other women in the field has been a strong motivation to pursue my profesional career.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
Get my current job only with my curriculum, without help or recommendations. Just for my knowledge, experience and goals, that demonstrate that only with my skills was possible to succeed in follow my professional career.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
Science is a way to learn new things every day, nature is a infinite source of questions and problems to resolve. I always want to develop advances that not only to benefit ecosystems, also people and to provide ecological solutions for current environmental problems.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
Dream and believe that they can get this goals. Have in mind that we have many skills to be great STEM women, our contributions, opinions, proposals are very important and we can share them without fear or shame.
