What do you do?
My work is based on aspects of plant biotechnology and nanotech, especially the employment of nanoparticles in plants and finding out the plant-nanoparticle interactions in terms of uptake, mobilization mechanisms, and effects on plants. A portion of my research work also includes the synthesis of nanoparticles that are safe and don’t interfere negatively with plant growth.
Why did you choose this field?
Since childhood I had a special love for science which was initially for animal sciences and eventually shifted to plant sciences. I feel plants offer us so much more and have the least requirements.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
I feel i knew more about the research opportunities
Why do you love working in STEM?
I want to inspire people specially young girls particularly from my community to take up STEM
Best advice for next generation?
Always strive! Never give up. What seems difficult now will feel easy when done
