What do you do?
I specialize in designing learning experiences to focus on the social emotional health of learners of all ages with the use of technology tools.
Why did you choose this field?
As a high school teacher, I have seen the changes in the mental health of students firsthand. The more focus on technology, the more the mental health of girls seems to suffer. So, in response to the growing urgency to address social media’s impact on social emotional health and to encourage girls to truly believe in their selfies, I founded the #THISiSME Movement. #THISiSME’s mission is to provide educational opportunities for women and girls, especially those pursuing careers in STEM fields, to claim their space in the world through vocal empowerment.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
I wish I could take the younger version of me by the hand and tell her that maintaining a strong sense of self and using her voice to share herself with others is the key to happiness and success.
Why do you love working in STEM?
I love being a digital diva and working to encourage a generation of young women to be digital divas too. In my view, digital divas are women in STEM fields who feel empowered to use their voice and be their real self! I firmly believe that empowering girls will help to close the gender gap in STEM related fields.
Best advice for next generation?
Be your real self! Find your unfiltered voice! Boldly share your story! Claim your space in the world! Be heard!
