You are capable of great impact.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am responsible for regulatory compliance and environmental management of projects. Our facility design and operations must have controls that are protective of human health and the environment (water, air, flora and fauna).
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I have always liked Math and Science. My mom was a math teacher, but it was my middle school science teacher who introduced me to engineering as a possible future career. I also attended the High School for the Engineering Professions and loved my experience.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
I lived and worked in Africa for 5 years. It was life changing. The experience of making a difference in my work, for my family, and in the community is one of the greatest achievements in my life. This gives me great personal satisfaction.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
I love figuring out complex problems and succeeding where others don't. I look forward to mentoring others and sharing the lessons I have learned.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
You are capable of great impact. Don't ever feel like you can't succeed in this field. In fact, that should be a motivator … to succeed so that others know they can. When it gets hard, stick it out, learn from the difficulties, and do great things!
