Believe in yourself ad always pursue what you are interested in with full dedication, passion and hard work.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am pursuing a Ph.D. in the field of Biotechnology. Specifically, I extensively work in the research domain of Biosensor development, for which, I exploit various detection schemes for the quantification of various bioanalytes such as amino acids, amyloid fibrils, Heparin and Heparin binding proteins, such as, Protamine, Heparinase and Thrombin.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

Having a Biotechnology background, it always made me realize that Biotechnology is the integrated use of all the fields in science in order to deliver a technology which is intended to improve the quality of human life. The breakthrough in my life took place, when I was selected at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai for my M.Sc. dissertation project. The idea of research had totally undertaken my mind during those 7 months tenure at BARC, and I started enjoying every aspect of research in due course of time. I learnt about biosensing and explored various sensor systems for the detection of various important biomolecules which include basic amino acids (Lysine and Arginine) and Amyloid fibrils. I certainly enjoy writing, and developed the skills of scientific writing so that I could publish my work in reputed journals. I was successful in publishing my M. Sc. project work as a first author in Elsevier’s reputed journals, such as Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical (Impact factor 7.10) and Journal of Molecular Liquids (Impact factor 5.06). In near course of time, I found myself getting completely interested in academia, so that I am connected to research for a major part of my life. Therefore, the thoughts of pursuing a Ph.D. in the field of Biotechnology and Biosensors evolved in my mind. I currently possess 5 research articles as a first author in high impact factor international journals.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

Being a perceived average student till my bachelors, I never imagined my career would take such an important turn and lead me to such a bright future, from where I see there is no turning back. The only thing that I consistently did was, I never lost hopes and I kept giving my complete dedication and hard work in the field of research. I wish the younger me knew I was about to achieve so much in a short span of time, I would have been a lot more confident.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

I absolutely enjoy working, learning and implementing in order to shape my self as a very strong woman who is much more than self sufficient. I love the field of research and working in STEM as it helps to to be at service to mankind in some way or the other, especially by solving problems related to healthcare and diagnostics which is much required and has an increasing need in day to day life.

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

Believe in yourself ad always pursue what you are interested in with full dedication, passion and hard work, and nothing can stop you from achieving much more than what you think you deserve.
