WHAT DO YOU DO?
I lead a team supporting an Oil and Gas major company in their maintenance and materials data management.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
I am a chemical engineer, Oil and Gas industry is a good choice for my domain. I started off in my company as a process engineer for water treatment projects and later moved to the Oil & Gas client when the opportunity for growth came on.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
Directly working for a Oil and Gas company in the field - offshore at sea or onshore at an oilfield - would have been great, wish I had teh aptience to wait for that job.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
Producing the final product in a process industry has no many factors that need to be right. Anything from the basic design, engineering, operations, maintenance and also the company's practices. Being part of this churning wheel is exciting, exhilarating and at times, scary. But nothing beats the moment when you get teh solution or when you get an appreciation from your end-customer.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
We girls are best suited to this work, based on our attention to detail, patience, willingness to go any length to get answers and also readiness for challenges. Find the field that interests you the most, pursue it. The resulting career will be very fulfilling financially and also in finding job satisfaction.
