What do you do?
Building 3D reservoir models with the latest geological heterogeneity modeling techniques for field production optimization, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and unconventional resources. This is accomplished by integrated reservoir characterization, incorporating petrophysical analysis, seismic interpretation, core analysis, stratigraphic correlation and reservoir engineering evaluation.
Why did you choose this field?
I chose this field because I love outdoor activities and travelling and knew geology entailed lots of field trips. I wanted to study a course which was practical and analytic, which geology provided. My dad worked in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria and I also wanted to follow in his footsteps and as a geologist knew that was one of my options.
What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?
I am currently the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Executive Secretary and the first “black woman” to attain this position. My younger self, not in my wildest dreams would have known this would have been possible.
Why do you love working in STEM?
I love working in STEM because it is a technical and very challenging field. It involves one to be very analytical and strategic in what we do. This is also a diverse field not only as a multi-disciplinary environment but also in demographics, which makes up great team players and leaders shaping how problems are processed and providing solutions to help streamline projects and ultimately stir the company in the right direction. I wake up looking forward to a new challenge.
Best advice for next generation?
The sky is your limit, do not let anyone pull you down with negative words or society limitations. Your career is not in anyone’s hands but only you hold your destiny in your hands. Do not give up no matter how dire the situation may seem but with perseverance you can pull through. If I can do it, you surely can!!
