Quality Engineer, Schlumberger

Follow your heart and believe in yourself.

What do you do?

I am working with Schlumberger as a Quality Engineer for drilling bits focusing on providing a high-quality product and ensuring customer satisfaction. My daily work comprises of leading quality investigations to resolve the pressing manufacturing issues/customer complaints and driving continuous improvement initiatives to improve product quality. I apply the principles of statistical quality control, lean six sigma, and data analytics to analyze the process performance and implement efficient strategies to troubleshoot the underlying issues. Daily, I work in cross-sectional teams and deal with various internal/external customers. Having the ability to drive strategic decisions impacting the business is what I find most interesting about my role.

Why did you choose this field?

I like to solve problems. Throughout my career, I have been driven by my intellectual curiosity to answer the most pressing questions effectively. I’ve been able to find an optimized way to tackle any problem, whether it’s catastrophic product failure or designing a low cost passively stabilized satellite. With a focus on continuous improvement in daily life, we sure can make a difference. I chose the field of Industrial Engineering with a focus on quality because I realized I am more interested in looking at the system level perspective and working in roles where I can drive strategic decisions to improve performance.

What do you look at and think, "I wish younger me would have known this was possible"?

During undergrad, I worked on a project to develop India's first passively stabilized Satellite "Swayam" which was successfully launched in 2016 and got an opportunity to meet with India's P.M. honorable Mr. Narendra Modi. I wish younger me would have known I had it all in me, and dreams do come to true if you have the courage to pursue them!

Why do you love working in STEM?

STEM is a world of endless opportunities! I get to learn something new every day. It gives me a chance to make a difference in our lives :)

Best advice for next generation?

Follow your heart and believe in yourself. Nothing is impossible and as Walt Disney says "It's kind of fun to do the impossible"!
