PhD student (Interactive Artificial Intelligence), University of Bristol
You can be more than just one thing.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am researching how we can make artificial intelligence interactive and adaptable
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?
For a long time, I wanted to be a professional musician. I got totally obsessed with producing electronic music. The fact you can make bizarre and wonderful sounds with a computer got me thinking about how incredible computers are, and wondering how they really work.
WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"
I got paid to program a tiny humanoid robot to do a dance routine. I didn't realise how creative you can be in computer science.
WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?
Technology changes so fast, there will always be something new to learn.
BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?
Try to question the stereotypes that you are fed. People are still surprised when I tell them I do computer science. I'm really in to art, clothing and make-up, so people think I don't 'look like a computer scientist'. Tech and AI desperately need creative types. You can be more than just one thing.
