WHAT DO YOU DO?

I play a techno-functional role in managing client driven and service improvement changes within my organisation.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS FIELD?

During school days I developed an interest in science and maths based projects. I participated in social engineering projects that enabled students to explore a social issue/cause and collaborate with the community to solve or bring positive impact within a span of 3-4 months. This experience enabled me to understand the human angle to every scientific solution/system. When I started working with corporates I realised that my interests lie in solving the bigger business questions and not just one small part of the bigger equation. My mentors, managers and colleagues encouraged me to explore project management while ensuring that I continue to stay close to the technology. This role gives me a holistic view of the changes being implemented to make positive impact for the clients and within the organisation.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK AT & THINK, "I WISH YOUNGER ME WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS WAS POSSIBLE?"

There was a stage in my career where I had to choose between technical progression or business related roles. Now looking back I feel it is possible to balance core technical role while managing a business/client facing techno-functional role. This clarity, if I had in the early stage of my career, would have helped progress better.

WHY DO YOU LOVE WORKING IN STEM?

STEM teaches the foundation of our life on Earth. It is our responsibility as a better half of the population to ensure that we contribute to STEM and stay attached to it to ensure sustained growth and development.
Every day I look to make positive change and add value. I look forward to dealing with challenges, be it technical or people-related and bring about a harmony. I look forward to using complex technical solutions to simplify/eliminate people's challenges/issues.

BEST ADVICE FOR NEXT GENERATION?

There is no element of STEM that can't be simplified and related to everyday life. As humans and responsible half of the population it is our duty to ensure we contribute towards every aspect of STEM. More and more girls in STEM would help attain the much needed stability in these fields. This is our chance to ensure future generations can sustain.
